It was 15 past 5 in the morning on the 18th of this month. That’s when I cold started my motorcycle for a ride to Horsley Hills. A very famous tourist spot and a hill station which is situated in Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh. Before long, I was on my way to my destination.
The destination was approximately 260 kms from my base and approximately 10 kms from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh.
Horsley Hills or Horsleykonda is a series of hills in Andhra Pradesh in Madanapalle taluk of Chittoor district and is about 9 miles from Madanapalle town. The local name of the hill was Yenugu Mallama Konda after a legend of a saintly old woman named Mallamma who lived atop the hill and was fed by elephants (yenugulu). W.D. Horsley, a British collector, built his home around 1870 after whom it is named. In contrast to the dry, hot and barren country surroundings this area is well vegetated and has a cool climate which made it attractive as a hill resort and tourist spot.
The first break came at around 8:30 am where I had some Dosa and coffee for breakfast. The destination then slightly changed to Virupakshipuram, A place where paralysis is cured naturally.
After that, at around 1 pm in the afternoon, the journey to Horsley continued which was around 100 kms from Virupakshipuram.
The journey was tough. Unruly traffic and trucks who came on the wrong side of the road, invisible speed breakers and non-existent roads for the majority of the journey. Finally, at around 3 pm in the afternoon, Horsley Hills greeted me with an entrance fee of 10 Rupees. After around 10 hairpins bend, I was at the top of the hills where I grabbed lunch at a resort.
Then this happened.
The view was truly spectacular and was the worth the journey. After all, The best views come after the hardest of climbs and what made this journey even more spectacular was that it was a motorcycle ride.
Half an hour later, I was on my way home from there. After all, it was a one day ride and 260 kms and 6 hrs later with no breaks. I was home at 11 pm.
Truly, a memorable day with 720 kms done in 15 hours.
